Covenant, Author No.1 Globally in Research Topic: T.84743 Carbon Steel; Corrosion Rate; Digital Voltmeter

 

It was Covenant 1,2,3 in the top 10 list of authors as the University established her dominance in the research topic 'Carbon Steel; Corrosion Rate; Digital Voltmeter' following Elsevier’s SciVal's computation of the performance of the world's institutions from 2015 to 2020.

While Covenant emerged No.1 in the institutions' category of the research topic with 12 scholarly output and 30 citations, her faculty, Professor Tolulope Loto of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Covenant University also led the pack in the author's category with 11 scholarly output, 13 citations, and 16 h-index.

Professor Cleophas Loto, the progenitor of Professor Roland, was 2nd in the authors’ category with 11 scholarly output, 13 citations, and 24 h-index. At the same time, Dr Olufunmilayo Joseph, also of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Covenant University, emerged 3rd with 3 scholarly output, 5 citations, and 7 h-index.

Other Covenant University authors in the list were Professor Oluseyi Ajayi 7th, with 1 scholarly output, 17 citations, and 17 h-index, and Dr Olugbenga Omotosho 8th, with 1 scholarly output, 17 citations, and 11 h-index.

While speaking on his emergence as the best globally in this research topic: T.84743, Professor Roland Loto said he was excited that God had done another great thing in his life. "I broke the news to my wife and mom, who were equally excited," he added.

Carbon steel, he stated, was the most widely utilized ferrous alloy worldwide, constituting about 80% of the total tonnage produced. "The steel is readily available, recyclable, can be easily fabricated and possesses easily adjustable mechanical and physical properties. Its application covers most industries such as petrochemical, chemical processing, fertilizer production, energy generation, desalination, marine and shipping, automobile etc. as a construction material of equipment's, parts, components and structures of machinery, devices, piping and columns," he explained.

The world-leading author, whose research focuses on the application of cost-effective and biodegradable compounds for the inhibition of carbon steel corrosion, said he hoped to build on the latest feat by engaging in more research. The research, he stated, would be tailored to industrial requirements on the application of plants extracts to mitigate the corrosion of carbon steel which was a widespread problem worldwide.

Prodded on how he maintains consistency in research, the recipient of the Covenant University Chancellor's Exceptional Researchers Award, said his interest in research was natural, inbuilt, and a strong passion. "Coming from a background where I was surrounded by research and grew up with it, I developed a strong interest in research and development tailored towards corrosion inhibition of metallic alloys of industrial importance; and pitting corrosion evaluation and control. Research is a part of me, or I would rather say it's one of my hobbies," remarked Professor Loto.
