To further enhance the study of Library and Information Science at Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijebu-Ode, Covenant University has donated a complete set of Library of Congress Classification Schedule and two sets of Library of Congress Subject Headings to the university.

The University also endowed 20 sets of Computers and other accessories to the Media Laboratory in the Department of Library and Information Science in the Premier University of Education in Nigeria.

Making the presentation at TASUED on Thursday, June 6, 2013 on the platform of the Covenant University Community Development Impact Initiative Committee, Dr. Abiodun Adebayo, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Korede Ayo, noted that Covenant University believes in qualitative learning and far reaching community development services as part of her Visionary drive in raising a new generation of leaders.

Dr. Adebayo also noted that Covenant University is taking giant strides in Information Communication Technology (ICT) which has placed the University on the global scale and attracted various awards in this regard.

He enumerated various community services Covenant University had rendered to her immediate communities and other institutions. The University, according to him, had sank boreholes, provided drugs and free Medicare services and established ICT Empowerment programmes in some schools in her host communities among others.

He added that, “What we presented to you today will link you to the international world”. He promised that the partnership drive between the two Universities would continue.

While receiving the Covenant University’s team earlier, the former Head of Department and Associate Professor of Library and Information Science, Dr. Niran Adetoro expressed joy at the donation and the relationship that exists between the two Universities, particularly the libraries.

“There is joy in our heart for what you have done for us today. It is something that we will remember for a long time. Over time, we have had good relationship with Covenant University and each time our students visit CU’s Centre for Learning Resources, as your Library is being called, they always come back with good story of success”, he explained.

Dr. Adetoro also commended Covenant University for the morals inculcated into her students, which he believed TASUED students would emulate. He also prayed for continuous assistance from CU to his department.

Also speaking at the event, the representative of the Dean, College of Applied Education and Vocational Technology (CoAEVoT), Dr. (Mrs.) Omolade Akinsanya, said that the gesture was very rare. She wondered how many departments in a state university can boast of the number of computer systems donated to Department of Library and Information Science by Covenant University.

She enjoined Covenant University to extend the gesture beyond the Department of Library and Information Science to the university at large. She opined that the materials donated would engender better performance among the students.

The members of Covenant University Community Development Impact Initiative Committee present at the occasion were the Chairman, Dr. Abiodun Adebayo, sub-Chair, Education, Dr. David Orodu, Secretary, Miss Nike Idowu, Reference and Digital Librarian, Mrs. ‘Ronke Asaolu and Information Officer, Mr. Ayo Ajayi.

Others are the representatives of the Centre for Learning Resources, Mr. Ifije Goodluck, the Corporate and Public Affairs, Mr. Biodun Olawoyin and the Centre for Systems and Information Services, Messrs Taiwo Akintolu and Mayowa Babatunde.
