Covenant Tops List of 10 Africa Centres of Excellence in Nigeria
Covenant has taken another huge leap into global relevance by being selected as one of the Africa Centres of Excellence for Development Impact (ACE Impact). The University’s Centre is the Africa Centre of Excellence in Applied Informatics and Communication.
Covenant was selected as one of the 10 new Centres among a total of 151 Nigerian Universities that expressed interest; and 44 selected from 12 African countries including Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Senegal and Niger among others.
Out of the 151 universities that expressed interest in Nigeria, 132 submitted proposals, of which, 35 scaled through to the next stage. Only 26 out of the 35 qualified for onsite evaluation and 10 centres were eventually conditionally selected for the $6 million USD World Bank Project. Based on the excellent report by the onsite evaluation team that visited Covenant, the University was rated the best among the 10 new Centres selected in Nigeria.
Africa Centres of Excellence for Development Impact (ACE Impact) also known as ACE 3 resulted from the gains and successes recorded with ACE-1 and 2 in terms of increased quality, quantity of postgraduate education through regional specialization and also participation.
Based on the lessons learnt under ACE-1 and 2, ACE-3 aims to work better across sectors, more industry collaboration, simplify flow of funds, and support more policy harmonization initiatives in higher education across the region.
The broad objective of ACE Impact is to increase quantity, quality and development of relevance postgraduate education in selected universities through regional specialization.
Big congratulations to Covenant for this historic achievement.
