Covenant University’s Father, Son Lead Globally in Carbon Steel; Corrosion; Mild Steel
Professor Cleophas Loto and his son, Professor Roland Loto, both faculty members of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Covenant University, have pulled off a rare feat by emerging No.1 and No.2, respectively, in the list of the top 10 authors globally in the research topic ‘Carbon Steel; Corrosion; Mild Steel’.
According to a recent computation by SciVal spanning the period between 2014 and 2019, Professor Cleophas Loto, even in passing, emerged the best in the said topic with 15 scholarly output, 162 views count, and 0.21 field weighted citation impact. Until his demise, Professor Cleophas Loto’s research interests included Metallic Corrosion Reactions Phenomena, Electrodeposition and Electroless Coating of Metals, amongst others.
Professor Roland Loto, a chip from the old block, emerged a close second with 14 scholarly output, 144 views count, and 0.20 field weighted citation impact. Metallic corrosion reactions phenomena; Corrosion in concrete; Corrosion inhibitor evaluation; and Localized corrosion: pitting and crevice corrosion are some of his research interests.
Father and son were two of the researchers who made the 20-man Chancellor’s Exceptional Researchers list for 2019 in Covenant University.
The other Covenant faculty in the top 10 list of the world’s best researchers in the topic, Carbon Steel; Corrosion; Mild Steel, was Dr. Abiodun Abioye, also of the Mechanical Engineering Department. He had 1 scholarly output, 14 views count, 39.80 field weighted citation impact to emerge No.10.
