Covenant in Global Top 100 List of SDG 8 Research Output
Covenant University has been nestled in the Top 100 list of the most active institutions, worldwide, in the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8 research area, according to a computation by SciVal from 2015 to 2020.
The SDG 8 focuses on the promotion of sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
Berthed on No.97 in the rankings and credited with 186 scholarly output and 666 citations, West Africa's No.1 University, Covenant, shared the ranking platform with many world-renowned institutions.
Topping the rankings was the Chinese Academy of Sciences courtesy of her 1,359 scholarly output and 14,762 citations, followed by the Russian Academy of Sciences with 719 scholarly output and 1,571 citations. The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences emerged 3rd with 608 scholarly output and 5,200 citations; the French National Centre for Scientific Research 4th with 535 scholarly output and 4,522 citations; while the University of Oxford occupied the 5th spot with her 487 scholarly output and 4,574 citations.
The other institutions in the other half of the top 10 included the Ministry of Education, China (466 scholarly output), Harvard University (456), Beijing Normal University (454), Tsinghua University (452), and CAS Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, China (447).
The best ranked African institution in the list was the University of Johannesburg on No.15, and Covenant was the only Nigerian institution that made the list of the world's top 100 institutions for SDG 8.
