Covenant to host ACCA Multi-Disciplinary Workshop for Academia
The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the global body for professional accountants, plans to organise a major multi-disciplinary workshop in Covenant University. The workshop will bring together faculty and students of tertiary educational institutions in Nigeria, with the goal of repositioning the future of learning in the country.
The ACCA Country Head, Mr. Tom Isibor, made this known recently during a courtesy call on the University Management, where he unveiled the idea and intended goals of the workshop. Mr. Isibor said with the world of learning evolving and becoming more dynamic, it was imperative that the academic world start evolving a learning culture that would be borderless.
According to him, “We have recognized the fact that the future of learning is leaning towards learning without borders in a very broad spectrum, that will be beneficial to both students and faculty across diverse fields of study, because we know that anything we do with Covenant is a case of money well spent, in a time tested and trusted entity.”
He stated that the intended workshop would become an annual event geared at strengthening the existing relationship between Covenant and the ACCA. Mr. Isibor commended the quality of leadership and administrative governance in place at Covenant, which had necessitated ACCA Nigeria to rethink how to work at creating higher impact and depth in the future of learning for young professionals and tutors.
The Dean, College of Business and Social Sciences, Professor Uwalomwa Uwuigbe, said the College was open to partnerships and ready to work with all professional bodies ready to deliver on the set goals laid out during the course of the session.
Professor Uwuigbe noted that since the workshop was one that would cut across disciplines, it was important that the University Management be carried along, with a view to ensuring that all faculty could draw benefits from the one-day workshop.
In his remark, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor AAA. Atayero, noted that it was a good thing the workshop was coming at a time when Covenant was steadily marching towards the attainment of her short-term vision, which was to become one of the top 10 universities in the world by the year 2022.
Professor Atayero posited that some of the University’s brightest minds were in the accounting department, and it was imperative that ACCA should work at entrenching a lasting and sustainable legacy in Covenant.
“It is my hope that you will engrave ACCA in the minds of the students, with the hope of making them propagate the values of ACCA in the accounting profession, when they get into the world of work,” the Vice-Chancellor advised.
