Digging Deep in Estate Management
With the increase in population and unending drive for development of residential, retail and commercial properties in Nigeria, students of the Department of Estate Management have been enlightened on the numerous employment opportunities in the industry, at the departmental seminar held at the College of Science and Technology Conference Room.
The guest speaker, Esv. (Dr) Bolarinwa Patunola, in his presentation titled “Employment Opportunities for Graduates of Estate Valuation”, added that the professional services of graduates in the society are inevitable because of man’s strong attachment to landed properties for survival and shelter.
Esv. Patunola further stated that in building a successful career in the field, one must have a strong interest and knowledge of the real estate market. One must also have a well thought out career plan and knowledge of financial skills, combined with strong communication and presentation skills.
In his words, “It is important for Real Estate Surveyors to know and comply with changing governmental regulations and learn to operate in an environment of change, characterized by shifting demographics, emerging technologies and heightened economic pressures”.
Also explaining the various sectors in Estate Management, Esv. Patunola urged the aspiring estate managers to belong to professional bodies for recognition in the country and beyond.
“Your certificate will dictate where you can work and the class or level of your operation but your professional qualification will launch you to a respectable, mature and confident level,” he said
The Head of Department, Dr Mayowa Ajibola, in his remarks, said the seminar was to allow the students of the department marry both the theoretical and practical form of Estate Management.
