President, NPUGA, Mr. Akintunde Akinola, speaking on the purpose of his team’s visit to Covenant University

The Nigerian Private University Games Association (NPUGA) has proclaimed sports facilities at Covenant University as the best among all private universities in the country.

President of NPUGA, Mr. Tunde Akinola, made this proclamation when he led executive members of the Association to pay a courtesy visit to the Management of Covenant University, which recently played host to the Council Meeting of NPUGA.

Stating the mission of NPUGA to Covenant University, Mr. Akinola said the Association was at the institution to hold its council meeting and encourage young people to get involved in sports activities. He explained that creating an alternative to crime and other vices was one of the reasons the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Private Universities founded the Association.

While he described sports facilities at Covenant as the best amongst private universities in Nigeria, the NPUGA President said that the core objective of his Association’s visit was to co-opt Covenant into practical involvement in the vision of the Association. He also expressed the desire of NPUGA to have Covenant host the NPUGA Championship in 2019.

In his remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shalom Chinedu, representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor AAA. Atayero, appreciated the NPUGA team for their thoughtful gesture and expressed the willingness of the University to be more involved in propagating the vision and objectives of the Association.

Professor Chinedu stated that Covenant University has a very deep interest in students’ development, with sports as an integral part. This, he said, is evident in the institution’s programme called ‘The Total Man Concept’, which is geared towards the all-round development of the students, spirit, body, and soul. He assured the team that the University would very much like to play host to the NPUGA Championship soon.

Also at the meeting were the Dean, Students’ Affairs, Dr. Timothy Anake; Director, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Professor David Omole; the Covenant University Sports Coach, Mr. John Obogo and other members of staff.
