NSE Seeks Covenant’s Support for Engineering Profession

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has solicited the support of Covenant University in propagating the development of the Engineering profession.

The request was made when the executive members of the NSE, Ota Branch, paid a courtesy call on the Covenant University Vice-Chancellor, Engr. (Professor) AAA. Atayero in his office at the University campus, Ota, Ogun State.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman of the NSE, Ota Branch, Engr. (Dr.) Akin Adeoye, who said that the primary reason for the visit was to deliver a message of goodwill to the Vice-Chancellor, expressed hope that the NSE and Covenant University will be able to join hands in propagating the development of the engineering profession with an engineer at the helms of affairs in the institution.

The NSE, he stated, believes that Nigerian institutions of higher learning can lead the way in establishing very good collaboration with industries to help the industries to solve problems, to look at how such collaboration can improve the economy of the nation, and look into how to make engineering to be very relevant in the country.

Echoing the comments of the Chairman, an ex-officio member of the NSE, Ota Branch, Engr. (Dr.) Friday Apeh, urged Covenant University to allow the graduation of its engineering students coincide with their induction by the NSE, starting with the next convocation ceremony of the University. And while calling for cooperation between the university and the industry so as to tackle the challenges bedeviling the nation, Engr. Apeh prayed that Covenant University succeeds in its drive of being one of the top 10 universities in the world by the year 2022.

Engr. (Professor) Festus Oyawale and Engr. James Oladele, two of the Covenant University faculty in the entourage of the NSE Ota Branch executive members, urged the University to collaborate with the body of engineers in order to achieve great things.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Engr. (Professor) AAA. Atayero, said that meeting with his colleagues was a wonderful opportunity, adding that it was a privilege to be associated with the NSE. He expressed his appreciation to the NSE for taking the registration of academics seriously.

The Vice-Chancellor promised that Covenant University will ensure that all engineers in the institution are registered in the shortest possible time, just as he craved the indulgence of the Ota Branch of the NSE to see that all engineering graduands get their induction done on graduation.

Professor Atayero used the medium to thank the Ikeja Branch of the NSE for the award bestowed on him as a distinguished engineer at its last investiture and also, the Ota Branch for identifying with Covenant University.
