NUC Accreditation Team Lauds Covenant Chancellor on Exquisite Facilities
The National Universities Commission (NUC) team on an accreditation visit to the Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management programme of Covenant University has commended the Founder and Chancellor of the University, Dr. David O. Oyedepo, for making possible the availability of infrastructure, facilities and equipment necessary for the running of the programme and others in the institution.
Presenting a summary report of its exercise to the Management of Covenant University on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, the Leader of the NUC accreditation team, Professor A.U Nnonyelu, said that members of his team were greatly satisfied with what they saw. “I think this university is blessed. We commend the founder of what we have seen on ground,” he stated.
While reiterating that the accreditation exercise was not an inquisition but to ensure that good standard and quality are maintained, Professor Nnonyelu, in the highlights of his team’s report, said that the academic content, philosophy and objectives of the Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management programme are within the limit of the NUC benchmark.
He further stated that the curriculum conforms substantially to the principles, precepts and theories that one would expect in industrial management; the equipment are state-of-the-art and adequate; the library found to be functional with all provisions made for end users; sponsorship of staff development very good; and very large percentage of students’ work evaluation conforms to best practices.
“Overall, the University, in terms of administration, is in very good hands; very qualified manpower directing at the different levels,” said Professor Nnonyelu.
The NUC accreditation team leader would not end his presentation without commending Covenant University for the performance of its products. According to him, he and members of his team were aware of the good reports emanating from employers of labour about the products of Covenant University. He added that it was awesome to find that a product of the University had once been the Registrar at the institution.
In his comments, the Director, Academic Planning Unit, Dr. Olawande Daramola, expressed appreciation to the NUC team for thoroughness and objectivity that went into the accreditation exercise. He said that it’s been a learning experience for the University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor AAA. Atayero, in his remarks, appreciated the NUC team for the accreditation exercise of the Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management programme, adding that the comments made by the NUC team leader showed the depth of the exercise.
Apparently affirming the comments made earlier by the NUC team leader, the Vice-Chancellor chose to place it on record that it is not only the Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management Department that has produced somebody who rose to a management position (Registrar) in the University. Some of the beautiful structures at the University, he said, were designed by an Architect who is a product of the University and currently heads the Physical Planning and Development Directorate. The Dean, Student Affairs and the Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship Development, Professor Atayero added, are also products of Covenant University.
Also at the meeting were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shalom Chinedu; Acting Registrar, Mrs. Mary Aboyade; Director Financial Services, Pastor Bayo Oladehinbo; Director, Centre for Learning Resources, Mrs. Promise Ilo; Dean College of Business and Social Sciences, Professor Francis Iyoha; Director Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Dr. David Omole; Director, Quality and Academic Standard, Dr. Edwin Agwu; and Head, Department of Business Management, Dr. Oluwole Iyiola.
