North-West Varsity Seeks Collaboration with Covenant
The North-West University, Mafikeng Campus, South Africa, has stated her desire to establish a vibrant and effective collaboration with Covenant University, especially as it relates to Mathematics.
A representative of North-West University, Professor Chaudry Masood Khalique, made this known recently when he paid a courtesy visit to the Management of Covenant University. The Professor of Mathematics, who described the infrastructure at Covenant as magnificent and far beyond his expectations of a Nigerian institution, said that asides Mathematics, the North-West University and Covenant should find other common areas of research interest for collaboration.
In her comments, the Acting Head, Department of Mathematics, Covenant University, Dr. Sheila Bishop, noted that education had gone farther than the classroom. She explained how she and other members of the Covenant faculty, who had gone to South Africa for a seminar, where they met Professor Khalique, were fascinated with the level of impact being made.
The Covenant team, said Dr. Bishop, were impressed with the practical application of Mathematics to issues and the depth of relationship with the industry. “We were challenged by their level of interaction with the industry, and we desire to have such in Covenant. We believe this partnership will change how Mathematics is currently studied in Covenant and will bring more value to Mathematics as a course in Covenant University and in Nigeria as a whole,” she stressed.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University, Professor AAA. Atayero, stated that Covenant was very keen on partnerships and collaborations that would accelerate the fulfilment of her vision to achieve a world-class status by 2022.
He assured Professor Khalique of Covenant’s willingness to work with the North-West University in order to broaden the study of Mathematics as a relevant subject for technological development. He said that modalities would be put in place to look at the necessary indices for a successful partnership between the two institutions.
Also at the meeting were the Registrar, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo; the Director Financial Services, Pastor Sunday Abayomi; the Dean, College of Science and Technology, Professor Kolawole Ajanaku and other members of faculty of the Mathematics Department.
