Sociologists, others Celebrate Professor Edewor at 60

It was a gathering of big-wigs in Sociology and other academia as they celebrated one of their own, Professor Patrick Edewor, as he turned 60 on Friday, January 25, 2019. Professor Edewor is the immediate past Head, Department of Sociology, Covenant University, Ota.

Part of the event was the launch of a book titled, “The Social Sciences and Sustainable Development in the 21st Century Africa.”

The Vice-Chancellor, Covenant, Professor AAA. Atayero noted that the launch of the book could not have come at any appropriate time than now when the world is craving for development without giving consideration to future growth.

Professor Atayero was represented by the Registrar, Covenant, Dr. Lanre Amodu. He eulogized Professor Edewor’s dedication to the development of the Department and the University in general. “The University is proud to associate with Professor Edewor. He is very special to us. He has served in different levels and distinguished himself. He doesn’t accept assignment half-heartedly and has never failed in any,” he added.

The Chairman of the occasion, who is also the Head, Department of Sociology, University of Ibadan, Professor Ifeanyi Oyenero, congratulated the celebrant, who he called the father of Sociology at Covenant University. “Professor Edewor has done a great job in mentoring the department and he is worthy to be celebrated.”

In his book review, the Head, Department of Mass Communication, Covenant, Dr. Olusola Oyero stated that the book centered on the issues of sustainable development, which was a great concern to the United Nations. He added that the ideas presented in the book could make the country move forward if the government would be willing to appropriate them.

He strongly recommended the Festschrift, which has 25 chapters divided into six parts, to everyone and the government in particular for personal and general development, as well as further research.

Dignitaries at the occasion included the wife of the celebrant, Pastor (Mrs.) Omolara Edewor and children; the Chief Launcher, Pastor Balogun; Dean College of Business and Social Sciences, Professor Philip Alege; Dean, College of Leadership Development Studies, Professor Innocent Chiluwa; Dean, College of Science and Technology, Professor Kolawole Ajanaku and Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Humphrey Adebayo.

Others were the Head, Department of Sociology, Dr. Charles Iruonagbe; other Heads of Departments in the University; Dr. Tayo George; friends and well-wishers from other universities including, University of Lagos; Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye; members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Province 14, Ogun State; family members and students.
