Two Covenant University faculty, Professor Innocent Chiluwa and Dr. Ada Peter, have been nominated members of the Africa Advisory Committee within the Social Science One Facebook initiative.

Professor Chiluwa is the extant Dean, College of Leadership Development Studies and the Cluster leader for the Media, Discourse and Conflict Research Cluster at Covenant, while Dr. Peter doubles as the Director International Office and Linkages and a sub-cluster leader for the Media, Conflict and National Security team at Covenant.

The Social Science One initiative and partnership with Facebook focuses on the effect of social media on democracy and elections, with access to Facebook data. The initiative will not only study the impact of social media on democracy and elections, but will also generate insights to inform policy at the intersection of media, technology and democracy, and advance new avenues for future research.

The Social Science One Facebook initiative is led by a Professor at Harvard University, Dr. Gary King, and a Professor at Stanford University, Dr. Nathaniel Persily.

The Africa Advisory Committee, chaired by Dr. Chipo Dendere, met last week at the Facebook Regional Office in Johannesburg, South Africa, in collaboration with the global initiative, Facebook Africa, and the University of Capetown.
