Summary of Profile

Dr. Oluwarotimi Ayokunnu Owolabi is presently a Lecturer in Economics in the Department of Economics & Development studies, at Covenant University, canaan land, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. He previously served as a Lecturer in Economics at Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria (2014 – 2017), and Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Ikeji Arakeji, Osun State, Nigeria (2013-2014) respectively; and as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Brunel University, Uxbridge, London, United Kingdom (2009 -2013). He has served with excellence in a variety of committees both as a member as well as a leader in the course of performing his academic roles at the various universities where he has served. Further Dr. Owolabi as an academic, in addition to lecturing students undertakes intellectually stimulating research both on an individual basis as well as in collaboration with other colleagues both within Nigeria and abroad. He presently has a couple of publications in both local as well as international journals either presently published, forthcoming or as work in progress, and has presented papers at a number of local and international conferences. Dr. Owolabi’s research interests broadly cut across a number of research areas exploring issues related to the fields of Economics and finance which are his primary fields of research interest. His research is particularly focused on issues related to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), institutional economics, financial economics and emerging markets including Foreign direct investment, bank and firm performance, agriculture, Poverty, Financial development, Stock market, Corruption/institution quality, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Environment Quality, Human capital development, and Tax. He is also open to multidisciplinary research in increasing his contribution to the academic profession. With regards to membership of professional bodies, Dr. Owolabi belongs to a number of learned societies including: Africa Finance and Economics Association (AFEA), America Economic Association (AEA), and is also an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Authority, United Kingdom. Finally Dr. Owolabi is a mentor to many, especially students many of whom he has been privileged to have had a significant positive impact on their lives as he lectured and mentored them while they were in University. The students are performing exceptionally in their chosen fields, with a number of them demonstrating leadership potential; and continuing to maintain regular contact with Dr. Owolabi as they seek guidance from time-to-time regarding their life choices.
