Chancellor Counsels Graduands on Importance of Preparation

The Chancellor and Chairman Board of Regents, Covenant University, Dr. David O. Oyedepo, has advised the newly graduated students of the University on the importance of preparation.

Dr. Oyedepo imparted the graduands at the Chancellor's Special Assembly held Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the University Chapel. Taking his quote from 2 Chronicles 27:6, he stated, "You're either building a library or building a mortuary without knowing. The exams of life are unscheduled. They don't have a timetable, the more prepared you are, the better you can pass".

He said that every degree had a five-year lifespan, and if anyone failed to improve on it or add to it, it's as if he never went to school. He advised that the graduands must be committed to constantly improving and educating themselves to remain relevant in the affairs of life.

"One week is too weak to learn what you will live on for life, 2 Chronicles 27:6. Invest your literacy in relevant literature to create your future. There's nothing you can do so well without learning. Wherever you want to excel, sit down to learn," he said.

The Chancellor explained to the fresh graduates that no one arrived at a future unprepared. "What you don't know, you don't know, and what you won't learn, you won't know. Get set for the future you want to see. Don't wish it; work at it. Don't wish it out; work it out. Go get ready for the future you desire to see," he added.

According to the Chancellor, "You don't read a book once to pass an exam. Spiritually set a great stage for the future you want to see. You don't build strength on the Olympic field, you build it before you arrive there".

He advised them to make their relationship with God a priority and maintain a prayer life, stating, "You're running a risk if your spiritual life is not in place. You can tell where you're going by how well you're prepared. Your preparation is vital in determining your destination."

Dr. Oyedepo rounded off the meeting with a special impartation session where he laid hands on all the new graduates for empowerment to be World Changers.

Earlier in his remark, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, advised the new graduates to maintain the same tempo of commitment to hard work and dedication that saw them through their time in Covenant to make great strides in the race of life.

He admonished them to make the University proud as they go into the world to showcase what they had been taught in Covenant these past years.

In his remarks, the Registrar, Dr. Oluwasegun Omidiora, congratulated the new graduates and urged them to keep flying the Covenant flag high to make the University and the whole nation proud in their endeavours.

Also at the event were other members of the University Management, faculty and staff.
