Covenant University’s Mass Communication Students Clinch Victory at 3rd National Advertising Colloquium

Covenant University has once again made a mark on the national stage, as students from its Department of Mass Communication emerged champions at the 3rd Advertising Colloquium National Pitch Competition. The event, organized by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), was held on July 8, 2025, at the Sheiba Event Centre, Lagos.

Competing against top universities from Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, Covenant University’s team claimed the top prize with an impressive score of 560 points. Their campaign, titled “National Rebirth,” stood out for its creativity, strategic depth, and compelling delivery—earning high praise from the panel of judges.

Themed, ‘Rebooting National Identity and Rebirth,’ the competition provided a dynamic platform for students to tackle real-world branding and national development challenges. It evolved from pre-event pitch rounds conducted across participating institutions, offering students a unique opportunity to demonstrate their advertising acumen and creative vision.

Pan-Atlantic University secured second place with 510 points, followed by Rivers State University in third place with 420 points.

Receiving the triumphant students in his office, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Timothy A. Anake, commended both the students and their faculty mentors for their commitment and excellence. “Our Mass Communication students have continued to perform brilliantly. This victory is a testament to the hard work of the department in nurturing talent and preparing our students for real-world impact,” he stated. He also revealed that the University Management is actively considering upgrades to the Mass Communication studios and addressing other departmental needs to enhance academic delivery.

The Head of the Mass Communication Department, Dr. Stella Aririguzor, attributed the victory to divine favor and expressed deep gratitude to the University leadership for their consistent support. “It has truly been the hand of God guiding us. We thank the Management for always standing by the Department,” she said.

Also present at the reception was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lanre Amodu, who joined in congratulating the students and faculty for this remarkable achievement.

The celebratory meeting featured the formal presentation of the award to the Vice-Chancellor by Dr. Aririguzor, followed by a photo session with the award-winning team and members of the University Management.
