A team from the Lagos office of the global consulting firm, Boston Consulting Group, led by their Recruiting Director, Mr. Tolu Aina, was in Covenant University recently to hold a ‘Grow at BCG’ event, which seeks to introduce a business analyst program in management consulting, to penultimate and final year students of the institution.

The ‘Grow at BCG’ session which took place at the African Leadership Development Center of Covenant University on April 5, 2024; was powered by the University’s International Office and Linkages and had students from different departments in the University in attendance.

In his opening remarks at the event, Dr. Isaac Akinwunmi, Director of the International Office and Linkages, welcomed the team from Boston Consulting Group on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, who was unavoidably absent. He appreciated the magnanimity of the University management in always lending support to events that would enhance the development and the future of the students which goes to show just how deeply the Covenant University brand is committed to progress and excellence.

He pointed out that the program would open up numerous career opportunities for the students; while providing them with mentorships that will shape their career journeys and position them for success. He noted that the program aligns with the University’s vision of ‘Raising a New Generation of Leaders.’

During his remarks at the event, Mr. Tolu Aina, announced that eighteen percent of the staff in their Lagos office comprises Covenant University graduates and that some of them were present at the event. He explained that BCG has functional and industry practice areas worldwide, collaborating with the public, and private, and partnering with leaders in business and society to tackle their most important challenges and to capture their greatest opportunities.

He noted that the ‘Grow at BCG’ opportunity was specifically open to only Covenant University students. BCG is offering unique fellowship (Grow at BCG) and internship opportunities (Business Analyst Program) to penultimate and final-year Covenant University students. Eligible students, he said, must have a strong academic standing and proven leadership and extracurricular activities.

According to Mr. Aina, the Grow at BCG fellowship is a short-term program designed to provide penultimate university students with a ‘light touch’ consulting experience. Successful students will then proceed to interview for the Business Analyst role with consulting knowledge.

He stated that the Business Analyst Program is a one-year internship, providing fresh graduates with immediate consulting work experience, after which successful analysts will receive a full-time associate offer to join BCG Lagos.

He announced that registration for the programme will commence in April and close on May 6, 2024; pointing out that the programme is structured across three stages while highlighting the compelling reasons why students should participate.

During the presentation sessions, each team member shared insights into BCG's operations, success strategies, and the opportunities they offer. Detailing that the organization works closely with clients to embrace a transformational approach aimed at benefiting all stakeholders; empowering organizations to grow, build sustainable competitive advantage, and drive positive societal impact.

A session of highly engaging questions and answers ensued after the presentations and was followed by the BCG team’s one-on-one interaction with the students.
