The Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Regents, Covenant University, Dr David O. Oyedepo, has stated that God’s wisdom has no match as it is superior to any other kind of wisdom on the earth.
In a message titled, ‘What wisdom is this?’, recently delivered at the Thursday Chapel Service of the University, Dr Oyedepo stated that one of the most significant expressions made concerning Jesus was ‘What wisdom is this?’ Mark 6:1-2.
He explained that the wisdom from above expressed itself in mighty works and was neither a verbal, theoretical, or vocabulary wisdom; not powerful talks, but mighty works, Psalm 104:24; Proverbs 3:19. “God’s wisdom has tangible proofs; they are not theories or hypothesis,” he added.
Dr Oyedepo stated that the world was under pressure, but this wisdom gave peace in a troubled and high-pressure world. “There are four classes of wisdom, according to James 3:15-17: earthly wisdom, intellectual wisdom, devilish wisdom and the wisdom from above,” he explained.
He elucidated that earthly wisdom was the same as common sense; for instance, the instinct told a newborn baby where the mother’s breast was situated. He noted that “It’s not wisdom knowing what is wrong with you, it’s knowing how to come out of your challenges that is wisdom”.
The Chancellor averred that nothing compared to the wisdom treasure in God’s word, as it held answers to all the questions of life, Job 28:7-28. He said: “It’s so transformational, that it can set any dummy above all nations in life, Luke 11:49; you must place a high premium on the wisdom of God delivered through this ancient book”.
“It takes the fear of God to access the wisdom of God. Choosing to do the right thing is by choice, not by luck (Proverbs 9:10; Psalm 119:97-100. You can’t access the wisdom of God without the fear of God, Psalm 25:14,” the Chancellor espoused.
Giving examples of men who have walked in divine wisdom on the earth, Dr Oyedepo mentioned Joseph, who he said was a great example of the wisdom of God coming down to those who fear Him, Genesis 41:16.
Another great example he mentioned was Daniel, who was like a king in Babylon by the wisdom of God, Daniel 1:8; Daniel 6:4-5. “Daniel climbed out of the lion’s den without a scratch by the fear of God, Daniel 5:11,” he pointed out.
According to him, “One of the covenant channels of access to this wisdom is meditation, John 8:4-9. Jesus meditated as He wrote on the ground, and through meditation, His answer came for the men who were set to stone the woman. Meditation paved the way out for Jesus”.
On the issue of meditation, he said that one would meditate on the testimonies of others to find solutions to his challenges, 1 Timothy 4:10-15. “Meditation requires time, separate yourself from Social Media and learn to think. Mathew 15:30. Learn to work, not watch. Know that you have only one time on earth; there’s no return match. If you miss it now, you’ve missed it for life,” he advised.
Dr Oyedepo said that when the word became the platform for one’s meditation, it would pave the way out of his troubles, 1 Timothy 4:13-15; Psalm 119:100. He advised that the foundation to accessing the wisdom of God was embedded in fear of God.
“The wisdom of God empowers people to excel above their peers, Daniel 1:17-21; Daniel 6:3; Deuteronomy 28:1; 1 Thessalonians 2:10. We must squeeze the wisdom of God out of the word just like we squeeze the juice of an orange fruit out of the orange to benefit from its nutrients,” he emphasised.
