Professor Adebayo Commends University of Nottingham’s Commitment in Driving Partnerships

The Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, has applauded the zest and verve displayed by representatives of the University of Nottingham in driving the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between both institutions.

Professor Adebayo made this known when he received a delegation from the University of Nottingham, England, United Kingdom, and said he was impressed with the business-like approach that has been injected into driving the MoU signed barely three weeks ago. According to him, the viability of every MoU lies in the investment in marshaling the necessary resources to initiate actions that will turn the letters of the signed document into workable projects.

Professor Adebayo said the proposal towards the issuance of joint degrees for certain programmes of both institutions may not be feasible as it relates to ungraduated programmes, but can be accommodated in postgraduate programmes, especially at the M.Sc. level, and the management of Covenant is excited at the prospects.

Professor Adebayo tasked all involved in advancing the MOU to start putting timelines on targets with a view to making commensurate progress, as that is the only way that the signed document can deliver maximally to all parties involved.

Earlier on, a Professor of Accounting and Corporate Governance and Head of the Accounting Department at Nottingham University Business School, Professor Emmanuel Adegbite, said their visit to Covenant was to further the discussion on how to make the most of the relationship, create frontiers for executing the MoU, and strengthen the newly evolved partnership.

Professor Adegbite said their intent as partners is to ensure advancement in the areas of teaching and learning, research, exchange programmes, and, where possible, the possibility of awarding dual degrees to students from both institutions.

He said the visit to Covenant is with the intent of availing them of the opportunity to interact with faculty in the College of Management and Social Sciences for those in business-related fields and those in the College of Engineering for those in the engineering milieu. "We have a huge interest in making the MoU a robust, engaging, and fruitful one, with the intent of forging a fruitful partnership," he added.

Associate Professor and Director of Student Recruitment at the University of Nottingham Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Mohamed Elmaghrbi, said Covenant occupies a special place in the partnership drive of the University of Nottingham, and as such, they are enthused about the prospects that exist from the relationship.

Dr. Elmaghrbi, who came in the company of the Senior Manager Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham, Mrs. Lucy Rose, said they were so enthused about making the relationship with Covenant work and opening up both institutions to greater opportunities.

The meeting had in attendance the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Regina Tobi-David; Director, Financial Services, Pastor Olugbenga Kiki; Director, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Professor Omotayo Osibanjo; Dean, College of Management and Social Sciences, Professor Abiola Babajide; Dean, College of Engineering, Professor David Olukanni; and the representative of the Director, International Office and Linkages, Mrs. Esther Elomien.
