"We are here to be part of your Progress Story" – CORBON Official

A team from the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) on the accreditation exercise for the Department of Building Technology at Covenant University has stated that their assignment is tailored towards being part of the progress story of the University.

Representing the leader of the delegation, Bldr. (Prof.) Deji Ogunsemi said after 5 years of licensing the Department of Building Technology to train professionals in the industry, the council deemed it necessary to come to see the compliance level of programmes components such as curriculum, facilities, the capacity of tutors, and feedback from employers of graduates of the programme.

"We are not here to witch hunt or destroy, but to build and give honest feedback that will help the programme thrive amongst other programmes the University offers prospective students. We are not here to kill this programme but to inject new life into it," Bldr. Ogunsemi posited.

He appreciated the warm reception the university management extended to them and hoped the exercise would run smoothly.

In his remark, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olujide Adekeye, said accreditation visits are needed if a system desires to improve on what currently exists. According to him, having accreditors visit the University, be it from the National Universities Commission or professional bodies, is always a welcome exercise in Covenant as it helps improve non-existing processes, noting that the endgame is to ensure quality becomes the hallmark of every programme in the University.

Professor Adekeye said the accreditation exercise is a partnership and peer review mechanism that aids in driving progress. The tasked team must take their time and carry out a diligent review that will help Covenant maintain its status as a centre of academic excellence in all standings.
