Take Responsibility to Build Your Capacity During this Yuletide Holiday - Chancellor

The Chancellor of Covenant, Dr David O. Oyedepo, has charged Covenant University students to desist from frivolities and acts, inimical to their self-development as they embark on their Christmas break, to come back better prepared for the next chapter of their lives.

He reeled out this challenge as he charged them during the departure assembly programme to commemorate the end of the 1st half of the Alpha Semester, as they embark on the end-of-the-year break.

Alluding to the story of King Jotham, who through early preparation, made himself a successful king even at an early age, he urged the students to wake up early and take responsibility, by taking up the gauntlet in this early stage of their lives.

He reprimanded them on the need not to be ‘cry babies’ who are ever dependent, and would not do what is required to build up themselves; citing the story of our Lord Jesus Christ, who began a studious life as an adolescent, learning from teachers as he prepared for the challenges ahead of him.

The Chancellor encouraged them to espouse an attitude of gratitude towards their parents, by trying as much as possible, to give them a helping hand during the holidays, with necessary assistance wherever and whenever they demand it.

Also speaking during the event, the Pro-Chancellor, Bishop David Abioye, implored the students to stay away from idleness during the holidays as the devil always has work, only for the idle hands.

Citing a story from the book of Job Chapter 1 verse 7, he opined that the devil is the one who goes to and fro, seeking those who are idle, to ‘engage’ with harmful assignments.

He therefore urged the students to get themselves adequately engaged, in profitable and progressive ventures, both online and on-site, during the yuletide season.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, congratulated the students on the completion of the 1st part of the Semester, and used the opportunity to reel out the many awards and accomplishments of the University this year; while urging the students to be of good behavior during the holidays.

Also present at the assembly were the Registrar, Mrs. Regina Tobi-David, the Deans, and other members of Covenant University Management.
