‘You Are Absolutely Responsible for the Outcome of Your Life’ - Expert

Students of the Department of Biochemistry have been advised to be adventurous and open hearted in seeking and taking opportunities that come their way if they aspire to do great things in future.

This advice was given by Mr. David Adeleke, who is the Membership & Partnerships Officer, Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria, while making his presentation as the Guest Speaker at the Department’s Town and Gown Interaction Seminar which held on Friday, 13th January, 2023.

Mr. Adeleke, a Biochemistry graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, has a wide range of influence which transverses to other areas, such as, Project Management, Fashion, Human Resource Management, Communications and other fields.

According to him, “Life is a function of personal non-transferable adventure. Your success is personal and your failure is personal, take full responsibility for your life as the outcome of your life is fully dependent on you.”

He also enjoined the students to be curious and spend time in developing their minds by asking questions about things they don’t know, especially from persons who are above them in their chosen vocations or fields, who would help ease their way through life.

Adeleke, who was President, OOU Biochemistry Class of 2007 Alumni, made it known to the students that as an undergraduate, he was able to maximize his time in different groups like drama, dance, and fashion shows. According to him, his versatility during his undergraduate days is now being rewarded with how flexible he is now and he is still pushing forward in making new forays and frontiers.

He concluded by pointing out the importance of maximizing one’s life by self-examination which must first begin with the heart and that happens by finding out exactly what one’s area of interest is in life. Secondly, finding out one’s abilities and passions which would help in having a better understanding of who one really is in relation to personality. These, he said, go a long way to determine how one approaches the future.

Also Present at the seminar were the Head, Department of Biochemistry, Professor Israel Afolabi; the immediate past Director, Centre for Innovation and Discovery, Professor Emeka Iweala and other members of faculty and staff of the department.
