Covenant University Commemorates 2023 World Earth Day

Students of Covenant University over the weekend joined the rest of the world to celebrate World Earth Day 2023 by initiating actions to spur people within the university community to show more interest in actions that will help advance friendly environmental practice.

In commemoration of the day, the Student Council of the University hosted the first campus-wide planting exercise aligned with the theme for the year, "Invest in Our Planet," in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 11, 13, 15, and 17.

The Students’ Council executives, through the event, called for businesses to shift towards sustainable practices and availed fellow students the opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing of their environment in the little way they can, as their simple act can inject a big impact in preserving the earth and ecosystem of the environment; "Simple Act, Big Impact."

Participants at the event enjoyed free gifts, refreshments, and lots more as student environmentalists showed up in their numbers and embarked on tree and flower planting exercises at strategic points in the university community.

The World Earth Day 2023 celebration in Covenant attracted partnerships from NGOs on campus such as Enactus, the world’s largest experiential learning platform, and Donate Drive. In addition, student entrepreneurs on campus were offered opportunities for partnerships during the event.

The United Nations has set aside April 22 every year to commemorate International Mother Earth Day as a means to help remind the world of how crucial it is to safeguard our natural resources, lower our environmental impact, and maintain the delicate equilibrium of ecosystems.
